Position Overview:

The role of a Board Director and Member of the Finance Committee at the CPMHC is a dual position that combines governance responsibilities as a board member with a specific focus on financial oversight and strategy as a member of the Finance Committee. This role plays a critical part in the organization’s leadership by ensuring sound financial management, transparency, and accountability.

Key Responsibilities:

As a Board Director:

  • Board Governance: Participate actively in board meetings, discussions, and decision-making processes to provide oversight, guidance, and strategic direction to the organization.


  • Strategic Planning: Contribute to the development and implementation of the organization’s strategic plan, ensuring alignment with its mission and goals.


  • Committee Engagement: Depending on the organization’s structure, you may serve on various board committees to support specific aspects of the organization’s work.


  • Community Engagement: Act as an ambassador for the organization, representing it at external events, meetings, and partnerships, promoting its mission and values.


  • Advocacy: Advocate for the organization, helping to secure resources, partnerships, and support to advance its mission and initiatives.

  • Diversity and Inclusion: Promote diversity, equity, and inclusion within the board and throughout the organization’s operations.

As a Member of the Finance Committee:

Financial Strategy: Collaborate with the Finance Committee to develop, implement, and monitor financial strategies, policies, and procedures that align with the organization’s mission.

Budgeting and Planning: Work with the committee to oversee and manage the annual budget, ensuring resources are allocated effectively and in line with the organization’s strategic priorities.

Financial Oversight: Provide ongoing financial oversight, ensuring compliance with financial regulations, and mitigating financial risks.

Financial Reporting: Review financial reports and statements, and assist in presenting financial updates to the board, ensuring transparency and clear communication.

Fundraising and Revenue Generation: Support the development of sustainable fundraising strategies, collaborating with the Sustainability Committee to achieve financial sustainability.

Risk Management: Identify and manage financial risks, including internal controls, audit processes, and compliance with relevant laws and regulations.

Investment Management: Assist in the management of the organization’s investments and assets, ensuring responsible and prudent financial stewardship.


  • Demonstrated financial expertise, including experience in finance, accounting, or a related field.

  • Strong understanding of non-profit financial management, budgeting, and fiscal best practices.

  • Previous board or committee experience, especially within a non-profit organization, is highly desirable.

  • Passion for the mission and values of the CPMHC.

  • Commitment to promoting diversity, equity, and inclusion in all aspects of the organization.

  • Strong leadership, communication, and teamwork skills.

Time Commitment:

Board Directors and Finance Committee Members typically serve a 2 year term, with the option for re-election. The combined role requires an estimated time commitment of 5-10 hours per month, including board meetings, committee meetings, and associated tasks. Occasional participation in organizational events and external engagements may also be necessary.
