Job Title: Vice-Chair of the Board

Organization: The CPMHC – Canadian Perinatal Mental Health Collaborative 

Location: Remote, Canada

Type: Volunteer Position

Commitment: 2 year term, renewable

Position Overview:

The Vice-Chair of the Board is a leadership role within the CPMHC. This position serves as the right hand to the Board Chair, providing support, guidance, and leadership in the absence of the Chair and contributing to the overall effectiveness of the board. The Vice-Chair is a key advocate for the organization’s mission and strategic goals.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Support to the Chair: Collaborate closely with the Board Chair in planning, organizing, and leading board meetings and activities. Assume the responsibilities of the Chair in their absence.

  • Board Governance: Assist in ensuring that the board’s governance processes are efficient, transparent, and in alignment with the organization’s bylaws and mission.

  • Leadership: Work with the Chair to provide strong leadership and guidance to the board, fostering a positive and productive board culture.

  • Committee Leadership: Leadership on the Executive Committee and Governance Committee.

  • Strategic Planning: Participate in the development and implementation of the organization’s strategic plan, ensuring that the mission and objectives are effectively pursued.

  • Board Recruitment and Development: Assist in identifying, recruiting, and onboarding new board members, and support their ongoing development.

  • Community Engagement: Represent the organization at external events, meetings, and collaborations, promoting its mission and values.

  • Financial Oversight: Collaborate with the Treasurer and Finance Committee to ensure financial transparency, oversight, and compliance with financial best practices.

  • Advocacy: Act as an advocate for the organization, helping to secure resources, partnerships, and support to advance its mission.

  • Equity and Inclusion: Champion diversity, equity, and inclusion in all aspects of board activities and the organization’s operations. Liaise with the Chair of the Equity and Inclusion committee to this end.


  • Experience as a board member, preferably with prior leadership or committee experience.

  • Passion for the mission and values of the CPMHC.

  • Strong leadership and collaboration skills.

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

  • Commitment to fostering a diverse and inclusive organizational culture.

  • Dedication to promoting the organization’s mission.

Time Commitment:

Board Vice-Chairs typically serve a 2 year term, with the option for re-election. The role may require an estimated time commitment of 10 hours per month, which includes board meetings, committee work, and other related activities. Occasional participation in organizational events and external engagements may also be necessary.
