Position Mandate/Job Summary: 

The Canadian Perinatal Mental Health Collaborative is accepting applications for board members. Established in 2019, CPMHC’s mission is to lobby the federal government. A national perinatal mental health strategy will provide direction, policy, and funding for improvements to perinatal mental health care including universal screening and timely access to treatment for all individuals during preconception, pregnancy, and the postpartum periods. 

Board members of the CPMHC are elected at the Annual General meeting to serve as the leadership team of the board. Each board member is a key member of this team that makes up the volunteer board of directors. 

The board of directors sets the direction of the collaborative according to the shared values and overall goals, ensures that the organization is managed well, and ensures the future viability of the organization. The board is CPMHC fiduciary and assists in the development of sound ethical and legal governance and financial management policies. 

We are looking for board members who understand perinatal mental health, have demonstrated leadership experience in non-profit governance and management, and can work well in a team structure. 
Duties and Responsibilities
By accepting a position on the CPMHC board of directors, board members agree to: 
         Follow to the utmost of their ability the three legal duties of a volunteer board of directors: 
Duty of Care, Duty of Loyalty and Duty of Obligation
         Be knowledgeable and act in accordance with the bylaws and other governing policies, 
         Represent the interests of the organization to the community and to outside stakeholders
         Ensure that the board carries out its fiduciary responsibility to the organization
         Overseeing, and monitoring accountability on the board and within the organization
         Support the vision, mission, goals, and policies of the CPMHC
         Serve on a committee as needed
         Maintain the confidentiality of the Collaborative information
         Attend and actively participate in all meetings of the board of directors during one’s term
         Prepare for meetings by reviewing the agenda and support materials prior to board meetings
         Maintain the knowledge of the organization’s programs and services
Qualifications and Competencies  
         Demonstrated understanding of perinatal mental health
         Experience on volunteer board of directions strongly preferred
         Demonstrated leadership experience in areas identified as needs for the CPMHC board
         Ability to serve out their 2-year term and to attend all board meetings
         Must be a member of the organization
         Demonstrated ability to work well in a team structure, collaboration, and being transparent
         Possess strong character and integrity

Position Mandate/Job Summary: 

As the Non-Profit Operations Manager, you will work closely with the Co-Executive Directors (EDs) and Board of Directors as an integral part of the Canadian Perinatal Mental Health Collaborative (CPMHC) – with supportive organizational responsibilities that allow the EDs to increase their capacity [from organizational operations (finance, budgeting) and business development (supporting prospecting, engagement and coordination)].

The position is ideal for a highly motivated individual, who enjoys wearing multiple hats, is passionate about making an impact, and looking to increase not-for-profit operations and development skills.


  • Assist in important policy, planning, and strategic decisions
  • Develop, implement, and review operational policies and procedures
  • Assist EDs with recruiting, when necessary
  • Help promote a company culture that encourages top performance and high morale
  • Assist EDs with budgeting, reporting, planning, and auditing
  • Coordinate with stakeholders
  • Ensure all legal and regulatory documents are filed and monitor compliance with laws and regulations
  • Work together with EDs and board to ensure that spending is kept in line with annual budget
  • Work with EDs to implement and monitor performance metrics and KPI’s and ensure targets are achieved
  • Work with the EDs and the board of directors to determine values and mission, and plan for short and long-term goals
  • Identify and address problems and opportunities for the organization
  • Assist EDs with the submission of funding applications


  • Degree in business administration, business management or accounting
  • Experience in management, operations, and leadership
  • Non-Profit experience required, strong consideration in Health Care (considered an asset)
  • Understanding of general finance and budgeting, including profit and loss, balance sheet, and cash-flow management
  • Strong knowledge with Google/Microsoft Office products, including Excel, Word, and PowerPoint
  • Ability to build consensus and relationships among staff, board and financial partners
  • Leadership skills (communication and conflict resolution) are required
  • Grant writing experience required
