CPMHC went to work as soon as the federal election was called in August 2021. We submitted our platform proposal to each party calling for support for a National Perinatal Mental Health Strategy. (see below) Make sure to tell your MP #ItsTime for Canada to create a National Perinatal Mental Health Strategy:

You can bet CPMHC is doing its best to make sure the creation of a National Perinatal Mental Health Strategy makes it onto each political party’s platform for the upcoming federal election expected to be called this Sunday. Sadly, this means the Private Members’ Bill introduced in June to the House of Commons will die once the election is called. But don’t worry! We believe all our accomplishments to date have been pushing the needle forward and the need for a National Strategy is gaining much needed momentum at the federal level!

To that end, we’ve sent each party our Platform Proposal (see below) which outlines our Recommendation that the development of a National Strategy include consultation with representatives of provincial and territorial governments, Indigenous governing bodies and other relevant stakeholders including perinatal health care providers, perinatal mental health care specialists and researchers, representatives of advocacy organizations and individuals with lived experience.
